Belarus is carrying out “measures to facilitate the resolution of various issues” related to Ukraine, State Security Committee chairman Ivan Tertel said after reporting to Alyaksandr Lukashenka on December 24.
Tertel said that Lukashenka and Trump are engaged in an “active dialogue” covering global and regional topics, including issues related to Ukraine, BelTA reported.
“Of course, Ukraine is the top priority. You know that our head of state takes to heart the situation that is developing there, with a brotherly country and a brotherly people who have been drawn into this confrontation. Therefore, on the instruction of the head of state, and in some instances in coordination with the American side and other parties interested in this, measures are being carried out to help resolve various issues,” Tertel said.
The KGB chairman reported two operations carried out at the border last week as a result of which Ukrainian and Russian families were reunited.
“There was a reunification of children who had lost very close relatives, despite attempts to speculate on this issue,” Tertel said.
According to him, Belarus is supported in this matter by representatives of the special services of other states, including Western ones. He stressed that political capital should not be made out of this issue.
“Because this is a purely humanitarian track: elderly people, children, women, people in an extremely difficult situation. On the instruction of our head of state, all of them are provided with medical assistance, and we do everything possible, acting humanely, regardless of passport, nationality, skin colour and other aspects,” Tertel said.
He also said that the United States has made new proposals to Belarus that are being discussed by a working group.
It should be recalled that on December 16 the Ukrainian and Russian sides reported the reunification of Ukrainian and Russian families at the Belarusian border.
