Ten Belarusian Citizens Detained At Illegal Cigarette Factory In Poland

Poland’s Border Guard and customs and tax service have shut down an illegal cigarette factory.

As part of the operation, 10 Belarusian citizens and one citizen each of Latvia and Poland were detained. Authorities also seized around 4.1 million illegal cigarettes of various brands, more than 4.7 tonnes of cut tobacco and nearly 12.1 tonnes of dry tobacco. The value of the seized goods is estimated at more than 9 million zlotys (around $2.4 million). The damage to the Polish treasury is estimated at 25.2 million zlotys (around $6.8 million).

The organised crime group operated in the Pomeranian and Mazovian voivodeships.

All 12 detainees were placed in custody for three months by court order.
