Crews have completed the removal of fire-damaged structural elements from the residential building at 9 Lenin Street in Minsk, the Minsk City Executive Committee said.
According to officials at a meeting chaired by Minsk Mayor Uladzimir Kukharau, a temporary roof is expected to be installed by the end of July 3. A total of 153 people are working at the site.
Engineers have completed a structural assessment of the roof truss system, determined the required quantities of construction materials for procurement, and are currently developing the truss layout and fastening scheme. On-site meetings are being held daily to monitor the progress of the restoration work.
The fire broke out on the evening of June 28 in the six-story building at 9 Lenin Street. At around 6:40 p.m., the director of one of the companies occupying office space in the building noticed the smell of smoke and alerted the emergency services. The fire spread across more than 1,000 square meters and was fully extinguished only at around 3 a.m. on Monday. Residents of the building were temporarily relocated.
Belarus’ Investigative Committee has launched an inquiry into the fire.
