Investigative Committee Launches Inquiry Into Fire in Central Minsk

The Investigative Committee has launched an inquiry into the major fire in central Minsk.

According to the committee, at about 6:40 p.m. on Sunday, the director of one of the companies located in an office on the sixth floor of a six-storey building at 9 Lenina Street noticed the smell of smoke and reported it to the Emergencies Ministry.

The fire eventually spread across an area of more than 1,000 square metres. Firefighters spent several hours bringing the blaze under control, and it was fully extinguished only by 3:00 a.m. on Monday. Residents of the building were temporarily relocated.

An investigative team is documenting evidence at the scene and interviewing witnesses. The circumstances of the fire will be established as part of the inquiry.
