A 17-year-old resident of the settlement of Bobr in the Krupki district has been detained on suspicion of a series of arson attacks, the Investigative Committee reported.
In May, the district emergency services department received reports of fires at several buildings. The blazes damaged outbuildings and a residential house. In all cases, the seat of the fire was located on the exterior of the structures, indicating arson.
During questioning, the teenager fully admitted his guilt and said he had set the fires out of boredom because he wanted to watch firefighters at work.
Investigators established that the teenager is registered with the juvenile affairs inspectorate. Since December last year, his family has been classified as being in a socially dangerous situation because the teenager “abuses alcohol, smokes and has repeatedly come to the attention of police officers.” A criminal case had previously been opened against him on hooliganism charges after he damaged the roof of a shop.
Investigators classified the teenager’s actions as intentional damage to property by a generally dangerous method and hooliganism, combining both cases into a single proceeding. He has been placed in pretrial detention.
The Krupki District Department of the Investigative Committee is handling the case.
