The press bureau of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service has issued another alarmist warning about the alleged plans of the insidious West toward Belarus. According to the statement, a search is underway in Belarusian society for new liberal “passionaries” who could weaken the link between Minsk and Moscow and complicate Russia’s achievement of the goals of the so-called special military operation.
“According to information received by the SVR, NGOs from Western countries, including ‘democratizing’ structures, agencies, and foundations from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, and other European states, are accumulating forces and resources in order to once again attempt to destabilize the situation and achieve a change in the constitutional system in Belarus. In the West, they hope to weaken the Minsk–Moscow link within the framework of the Union State and to complicate Russia’s achievement of the goals of the special military operation,” the statement says.
Notably, in this statement the SVR referred to the country as “Belarus.” In other statements by the SVR as well as other Russian state bodies, the colonial term “Belorussia” is persistently used.
According to the Russian intelligence service, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya has “signed her complete helplessness,” and therefore the insidious West is looking for new executors of its will.
“To implement the ‘color revolution’ scenario, the task has been set to find new liberal passionaries within Belarusian society. The fugitive figures entrenched in Lithuania and Poland, led by S. Tsikhanouskaya, over recent years have demonstrated their complete inability to influence in any way the processes in their home country. Western actors plan to conduct a thorough ‘inventory’ of Belarusian opposition personnel for the purpose of using them in subversive activities. It is envisaged to form a resource of those ‘angry at A. Lukashenka’ with a focus on the presidential election of 2030,” the SVR press bureau writes.
Further on, the alarmist tone of the statement gives way to a triumphant and celebratory one.
“However, the West is overlooking one important detail. Belarusian society, having overcome the domestic political crisis of 2020 orchestrated by hostile external forces, has received a good ‘vaccination’ against attempts to destabilize the situation in the country. Before the eyes of Belarusians are the examples of Ukraine, Moldova, and many other countries destroyed in the name of implementing the geopolitical ambitions of the West under the cover of false slogans about defending democracy and human rights,” the authors of the statement conclude.
It should be recalled that the SVR’s partner in Belarus is the KGB. As early as 2021, the services agreed on joint work to counter the West’s destructive activities. The SVR press release is a complete copy of a recent program on the STV television channel titled “Without Cover,” in which Roman Protasevich appears as the frontman. It can be assumed that the text of the SVR release itself was written by partners from Belarus.
