The chairman of the State Control Committee, Vasiliy Herasimau, told the National Assembly that his agency had prevented “100 crimes related to the financing of terrorism and extremism” in 2025.
“Last year, 100 such crimes were prevented. In the course of their illegal activities, offenders used specialized software, technical equipment, internet resources, as well as blockchain technology,” he said, according to BelTA.
It should be noted that in Belarus, accusations of extremism and terrorism are regularly used against Lukashenka’s opponents and dissent more broadly. “Financing extremism and terrorism” is understood to include donations to organisations deemed undesirable by the authorities, including charitable foundations.
