On November 17, border guards from the Polotsk Border Guard Detachment found two migrants, citizens of Cuba, at the Belarusian-Latvian border.
The man and woman stated that Latvian border guards beat them, using an electroshock weapon, and forced them back into the territory of Belarus, the State Border Committee reports.
Medics diagnosed the Cubans with hypothermia, abrasions, and hematomas. The man showed signs of a traumatic brain injury. The foreign nationals were hospitalized in the Braslav Central District Hospital.
The Investigative Committee reports that the man is 28 years old. Together with his acquaintance, he wanted to get to Spain and crossed the border into Latvia for this purpose.
«When they arrived in Latvia, they were detained by people in uniform and taken to their “commander” for a decision. There, the man said that “does not want to see such people in Latvia.” After that, the defenseless foreigner, handcuffed, was brutally beaten using rubber batons and electroshock weapons. When the woman tried to intervene, they hit her too. Next, the Cubans were shoved into a minibus, brought to the border, where they were forced to walk into Belarus through a gate for animals,» the IC reports.
