Rail Transit And Air Traffic. Transport Ministries Of Belarus And China Held Talks

Rail transit to Europe and air traffic were the main topics of the working meeting between the Ministers of Transport of Belarus and China, Alyaksei Liakhnovich and Liu Wei, on the sidelines of the Second Forum for International Cooperation on China–Europe Rail Freight Transport.

«Belarus is a key transit country. We are ready to make efforts to implement the tasks outlined in the joint communiqué of the two countries’ governments, signed in August 2024, and to promote continuous cooperation in the transport sector,» the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Transport quoted the Chinese minister as saying.

During the meeting, the parties agreed to increase the number of destinations between Belarus and China on air routes. The relevant memorandum will be signed by the aviation authorities.

The running of freight trains through Belarus on the China-Europe route was also discussed. Liakhnovich stressed that despite the temporary closure of railway border crossings by neighboring countries, Belarus had not imposed any bans, had not restricted the dispatch of trains, and had ensured the safety of goods.

«The Belarusian side, after the border opened, ensured the prompt transfer of accumulated trains through the Brest-Terespol border crossing within a few days,» he said.

Road transport issues were also raised. The parties expressed mutual interest in accelerating the implementation of an electronic permit system for international road freight transport.
