A Slovak citizen travelling on a Kaliningrad–Moscow train was found carrying a large sum of undeclared cash at the Hudogai checkpoint on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border.

During an oral interview, she told customs officers that she was carrying less than $3,000 in cash. However, a search revealed that the actual amount was 17 times higher.

Euros, Polish zlotys, Russian roubles and Ukrainian hryvnias were concealed in her personal belongings and in the pockets of the clothes she was wearing.

A criminal case has been opened. The money, equivalent to approximately $53,000, has been seized pending a court decision.

It is worth recalling that cash exceeding the equivalent of $10,000 must be declared when crossing the border. Failure to declare such funds may result in criminal liability.
