Belarus and China Working to Expand Air Connectivity

Belarusian Transport and Communications Minister Aliaksei Liachnovich met with China’s Ambassador to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan. The parties discussed the development of bilateral cooperation in the transport sector, the Transport Ministry reported.

Liachnovich noted the long-standing cooperation between the two countries and spoke about ongoing transport projects.

“Regular flights are currently operating between the capitals of our countries, as well as from Minsk to Urumqi and Sanya. Work is underway to expand air connectivity between our countries. In addition, a pilot programme has been launched to issue electronic permits to carriers from both countries on an application-based basis, without quantitative restrictions,” he said.

The minister also emphasized the role of Belarusian Railway in maintaining transport links along the China–Belarus–China and China–Europe–China routes.

Zhang Wenchuan, in turn, described transport as one of the key areas of cooperation between China and Belarus and noted the prospects for further development of joint projects.
