Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The meeting took place on July 23 on the sidelines of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
As the Belarusian Foreign Ministry reported, the sides discussed the state of bilateral relations, the international agenda and cooperation within the SCO. Ryzhankou reaffirmed Belarus’s commitment to developing an “all-weather and comprehensive strategic partnership” with China.
The two ministers reaffirmed their mutual support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and core interests of their respective countries, and agreed to continue cooperation within the framework of China’s global initiatives.
The sides also discussed high-level and top-level contacts, prospects for the further development of bilateral relations, and joint work within the SCO.
“The interlocutors placed particular emphasis on the personal friendship and trusting relationship between President of Belarus Aliaksandr Lukashenka and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The frequency of their meetings is vivid evidence of mutual support and the truly fraternal nature of relations between the two countries. The sincere interaction between the two leaders remains the main ‘locomotive’ driving the development of the entire spectrum of interstate ties,” the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
The Belarusian Foreign Ministry also noted the growth of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. According to the ministry, Belarus-China trade turnover increased by nearly 30%. It also highlighted the role of the Belarus-China Regions Forum in developing business and interregional ties.
In addition, Belarus congratulated China on the signing of the agreement establishing the World Organization for Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence, of which Belarus is one of the founding members. The sides also discussed practical issues related to expanding and strengthening Belarus’s diplomatic presence in China.
During the meeting, the sides signed a consultation plan between the foreign ministries of Belarus and China for 2026–2027. They also announced preparations for events marking the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, to be celebrated in 2027.
Ryzhankou invited Wang Yi to pay an official visit to Belarus. The invitation was accepted.
