A drone crashed and exploded near the village of Copanca in Moldova’s Căușeni District overnight.
The country’s Defence Ministry and Foreign Ministry said it was a Russian Geran-2 drone. The drone crashed while flying through Moldovan airspace during an attack on the Odesa region.
Police received a report of an explosion at around 1 a.m. Officers arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area. There were no reports of casualties. Judging by a published photograph, the fuel exploded, while the warhead did not detonate.
“This new incident represents a serious and unacceptable violation of Moldova’s airspace and once again confirms that Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine poses direct threats to the security of our citizens and the entire region,” Moldova’s Foreign Ministry said.
