EDB Names Reasons for Inflation Slowdown in June

Analysts at the Eurasian Development Bank have identified the reasons for the slowdown in inflation in Belarus in June. Annual inflation stood at 4.3% at the end of last month, its lowest level since October 2023.

“The main contribution came from a slowdown in food inflation to 3.4% year on year from 4.9% a month earlier. This was supported by an 11.5% year-on-year decline in fruit and vegetable prices, following a 7.8% fall in May. Lower prices for certain categories of goods were partly linked to the 6.1% year-on-year strengthening of the Belarusian ruble in June,” the EDB said in its weekly review of the economies of its member countries.

The rate of price growth for non-food goods was unchanged, while services inflation accelerated amid rising wages. Core inflation also slowed to 4.8% from 5.3%.

EDB experts said this “indicates that disinflationary processes are sustainable.” The bank expects inflation to remain below the 7% target by the end of the year.
