The Russian government is discussing an increase in fuel supplies from Belarus to help meet demand on the domestic market. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak has instructed relevant agencies to hold consultations with the Belarusian side on increasing gasoline deliveries, RBC reported, citing two sources.
Russia is also considering increasing payments under its import fuel damping mechanism, including for Belarusian fuel. Relevant amendments to the Russian Tax Code could be introduced retroactively from June 1, one of the sources told the publication.
Russia’s Energy Ministry and Finance Ministry have also been tasked with examining the possibility of extending the zero import customs duty rate on gasoline.
Russia has faced fuel supply challenges amid Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries. In May, sales of gasoline from Belarusian refineries rose sharply on the St. Petersburg commodity exchange.
