A Romanian F-16 fighter jet shot down an unidentified drone on Friday morning after it entered the country’s airspace. The drone was destroyed by a missile over an uninhabited area near the village of Padina, Romania’s Defence Ministry said.
Romanian military personnel detected the unmanned aerial vehicle at 9:39 a.m. local time. Radar tracked it about 20 kilometres from the town of Sulina, located in the Danube Delta near the border with Ukraine.
Two Italian Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets and two Romanian F-16s were scrambled.
At 11:02 a.m., a Romanian F-16 acquired the target and shot down the drone.
