Posed as CIA Officer and Sought to Work for Belarusian KGB: Lithuanian Citizen Convicted in Poland

The District Court in Białystok on January 9 delivered a guilty verdict against 43-year-old Lithuanian citizen Saulius V.. This was reported by Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW). The man was sentenced to one year in prison for attempting to declare his readiness to act in the interests of a foreign intelligence service against Poland and the United States.

“The basis for launching the investigation was evidence obtained by officers of the Internal Security Agency indicating that Saulius V., posing as an active officer of the United States Central Intelligence Agency, declared his readiness to provide information to the State Security Committee of the Republic of Belarus to the detriment of the United States during the period from November 27, 2024, to March 14, 2025. In his actions, he used advanced technical means, including the capabilities of artificial intelligence,” the ABW statement said, describing the circumstances of the case.

Saulius V. was detained by ABW officers on March 14. The court ordered his pre-trial detention. In the verdict handed down on January 9, the time he had already spent in custody was taken into account. The sentence is final.

The National Prosecutor’s Office also published its own press release on the case, providing additional details.

According to the statement, the defendant conducted email correspondence while in Lithuania. The correspondence was with individuals who were posing as officers of the Belarusian intelligence service.

The man “declared his readiness to provide the State Security Committee of the Republic of Belarus with information about CIA agents operating on the territory of the Russian Federation and about the locations of CIA centers in Europe.”

“At the same time, he did not know that committing this act was impossible, because these individuals were merely posing as representatives of the State Security Committee,” the prosecutor’s office said.

It is noted that the man admitted to committing the crimes he was charged with and gave detailed explanations. He also filed a motion requesting a guilty verdict without a court hearing.

As a result, the court granted the prosecutor’s request for punishment, which, in addition to one year of imprisonment, provides for the confiscation of items used in committing the crime.
