Former political prisoners from the group of 25 people taken out of Belarus in September who decided to remain in Lithuania have already obtained legal status and documents. The Tsikhanouskaya Office reported this following a meeting between Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Vytis Jurkonis, head of the Vilnius office of Freedom House.

Jurkonis told Tsikhanouskaya that everyone who decided to remain in Lithuania had already obtained legal status and documents. Tsikhanouskaya thanked Freedom House for helping receive and support the released political prisoners.

“Lithuania has supported and continues to support Belarusians — those who have faced repression and those who were forced to leave Belarus because of persecution. We see and greatly appreciate this solidarity and will never forget this support.

I would also like to express my gratitude to the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior and the Migration Department for promptly resolving issues related to legal status and the issuance of documents,” she said.

Of the group of 25 people, 13 released political prisoners remained in Lithuania, 10 went to Poland, where they have already applied for international protection, and two others went to another country.
