Polish border guards detained nine people suspected of involvement in smuggling cigarettes from Belarus using weather balloons, the Podlaskie Border Guard Unit reported.
Among those detained were three Polish citizens, four Belarusians and two Lithuanians.
The total value of the seized cigarettes exceeded 620,000 zlotys.
Further arrests are planned.
The border guard service said that since the beginning of the year, 40 people involved in smuggling using weather balloons have been detained in the Podlaskie Voivodeship.
