Police Shoot Resident of Byaroza District During Arrest

Police officers used firearms during the arrest of a 34-year-old resident of the Byaroza district after he refused to drop a knife.

A police unit arrived in one of the villages of the Byaroza district following an anonymous report, the information from which needed to be verified.

In the village, police officers saw a 34-year-old local resident showing signs of intoxication and holding a knife. The man refused to drop the knife, and a police officer shot him in the leg.

“Upon seeing law enforcement officers, the 34-year-old local resident, with clear signs of intoxication and holding a knife, moved in their direction. He ignored repeated lawful demands by officers to stop and drop the cold weapon, creating a real threat to the life and health of others. A police officer fired a targeted shot at his leg,” the Brest Regional Police Directorate reported.

In the video, police officers can be heard telling the man, “Drop the knife,” and “Put the knife down, I said.” The moment of the shot was not captured on video.

The man was given first aid and handed over to medical personnel.

A criminal case has been opened for violence or the threat of violence against a law enforcement officer. The article provides for up to seven years in prison.
