Poland Extends Buffer Zone On Border With Belarus For Another 90 Days

Poland has extended the buffer zone along its border with Belarus. A corresponding order of the country’s Ministry of the Interior and Administration came into force today. The zone will now remain in effect for another 90 days.

The ministry justified the extension by the continued migration pressure on the border with Belarus. The previous extension of the buffer zone took place in December last year.

The buffer zone was first introduced on June 13, 2024. It предусматривает a ban on staying in the border area. The zone covers a section of the border 78.29 km long within the territorial jurisdiction of Border Guard units in Michałowo, Narewka, Białowieża, Dubicze Cerkiewne and Czeremcha.

On a stretch of 59.24 km, the zone extends 200 meters from the border line. On a 15.26 km section located near nature reserves, the zone is wider and reaches about 2 km, while on a section of approximately 3.79 km its width inland reaches about 4 km.
