Airports in Rzeszów and Lublin temporarily suspended civilian flight operations in order to ensure freedom of action for military aviation, Poland’s Armed Forces Operational Command reported.
The decision was taken amid activity by Russian long-range aviation carrying out strikes on Ukrainian territory. In this context, military aviation began air patrols in Polish airspace.
In accordance with existing procedures, the Operational Command deployed the necessary forces and assets. Fighter jets were scrambled, while ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems were put on heightened alert.
The command stressed that the measures taken were preventive in nature and aimed at ensuring safety and protecting airspace, primarily in areas adjacent to potentially dangerous zones.
“Poland’s Armed Forces Operational Command is monitoring the current situation, and subordinate forces and assets remain ready for immediate response,” the statement said.
After the military activity ended, airports in Rzeszów and Lublin resumed flight operations, the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency said.
