Pilot Census to Be Conducted in Babruisk District in 2027

Belarus will conduct a pilot census in October 2027. This was announced by Belstat Chairwoman Ina Miadzviedzieva.

“Our pilot census will take place in October 2027. The Babruisk district has been selected. We will try to work with 15,000 people who will interact with us directly using tablets,” she said, according to BelTA.

At the same time, a prototype online census will be launched nationwide. Anyone interested will be able to test the software.

Today, the House of Representatives approved in the first reading a draft law “On Amendments to the Law of the Republic of Belarus ‘On the Population Census.’”

The updated law proposes to establish the obligation of respondents to participate in the census.

“Establishing the obligation of respondents to participate in the population census will help emphasize the importance of participation in the census and increase responsibility and awareness when providing reliable primary statistical data,” Miadzviedzieva commented.

The draft law changes the procedure for determining categories of persons who may be recruited as temporary census personnel. It also proposes lowering the age at which respondents may independently provide primary statistical data about themselves to 15 years old (as of the census date).

The law also includes the possibility for respondents to complete census forms online.
