A fragment of a reinforced concrete parapet measuring 0.4 by 3 meters collapsed from the roof of a nine-story residential building built in 1993 in Zhlobin. The incident occurred on May 8 in the city’s 19th microdistrict, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.
The debris fell onto the attached one-story building of a Kopeechka grocery store. As a result, 5 square meters of the roof’s sandwich panels and 10 square meters of the store’s suspended ceiling were damaged. Fortunately, no one was injured. The store’s operations have been suspended.
The presumed cause of the collapse is described as natural wear and aging of the building’s structural components.
As reported by Novy Dzien, a working group headed by Deputy Chairman of the District Executive Committee and head of the district emergency commission Siarhei Andrusyou was established. According to him, the housing utility service has been instructed to inspect all parapets of the building with the involvement of a specialized design organization.
“A decision will be made on additional reinforcement of the parapets or their replacement. No one was injured,” he said.
