Strong winds with gusts of 15–20 m/s, locally up to 24 m/s, are being observed across Belarus today. In a number of areas, precipitation in the form of rain and wet snow is expected.
Due to the adverse weather, the traffic police are urging drivers to avoid sharp maneuvers and braking, increase following distance and lateral spacing, and switch on low-beam headlights. On open, wind-exposed sections, the steering wheel should be held with both hands. When overtaking heavy trucks, drivers should be prepared for sudden side gusts. Torn banners, road signs and fragments of trees may be blown onto the roadway. Parking under trees, near power lines and poorly secured structures is not recommended.
Pedestrians are advised not to obstruct their view with a hood or umbrella, not to use headphones when crossing the road, and to use reflective elements in the dark. Cyclists and users of personal mobility devices are advised to refrain from trips.
Road conditions are being monitored, and police units are ready to respond оперативно, the Interior Ministry said.
