The New York Times has identified Belarus-born Karyna Shuliak as a potential heir to financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The media have previously reported on the relationship between Shuliak and Epstein. In 2023, the Daily Mail reported that Shuliak was the last person to visit Epstein in jail before the billionaire, who had been charged with sex trafficking of minors, died by suicide. The newspaper also detailed their relationship, reporting that Epstein paid for Shuliak’s mother’s medical treatment and helped her parents purchase a house in Minsk.
The Daily Mail also reported at the time that the financier amended his will two days before his death, although it was unclear what, if anything, he had bequeathed to Karyna.
The New York Times writes that in 2019, Shuliak and Epstein appeared to be a couple. She spent most of her time living in his New York mansion. That same year, they traveled to Paris together. Epstein was arrested after returning from the trip.
According to the NYT, shortly before his death Epstein revised his will, leaving Shuliak the bulk of his $600 million fortune, including a diamond ring given “in anticipation of marriage.”
The newspaper notes that the actual value of the estate is difficult to determine. After substantial compensation payments to Epstein’s victims, his remaining wealth is estimated at between $120 million and $200 million. In addition to Shuliak, there are other heirs.
The newspaper reports that Karyna Shuliak completed a postgraduate residency program at Columbia University in May 2025. In November, she obtained a license to practice dentistry in New York State. Around the same time, she applied for a part-time dentist position at a clinic in Brooklyn.
A clinic employee, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the newspaper that Shuliak treated a patient identified as Yunhe Kim twice, in December and February. After recognizing her, Kim contacted the NYT. According to the report, on Feb. 16, Karyna Shuliak informed the clinic that she was ill and never returned to work. Her lawyer declined to say whether she had found another job in dentistry.
