Kash Patel, director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has arrived in Moscow for meetings with Russian officials, MS NOW reported on October 14, citing sources.

The trip was reported on air by Ken Dilanian, the network’s correspondent covering justice and intelligence. A segment on Patel’s arrival was published on Yahoo News.

Plans for the FBI director to visit Russia first became known in July. According to Politico, the trip was scheduled for October 14–15 and was to include visits to Moscow and St. Petersburg. The Federal Security Service (FSB) was expected to host the visit.

Ahead of the visit, senior Democrats in the House of Representatives, Jamie Raskin and Jim Himes, urged Patel to cancel the trip on national security grounds. As The Atlantic reported on October 9, current and former FBI employees also expressed concern about the visit. At the time that article was published, the bureau had not publicly confirmed Patel’s plans, and the FBI and the White House had not responded to the publication’s requests for comment.
