In 2025, German citizenship was granted to 2,594 Belarusian citizens, including 711 men and 1,883 women. The figures were published by Germany’s Federal Statistical Office.
Last year, 2,957 applications for naturalisation were submitted, including 890 by men and 2,066 by women. Of the 2,704 cases reviewed, 2,594 resulted in the granting of citizenship, 18 applications were rejected, and 43 applicants withdrew their requests voluntarily.
For comparison, German citizenship was granted to 2,405 Belarusians in 2024, 350 in 2023, 470 in 2022 and 385 in 2021.
The largest numbers of Belarusians were naturalised in Bavaria, where 573 people received citizenship, and in Baden-Württemberg, where 267 did so.
Across Germany, a total of 332,500 foreign nationals received German citizenship in 2025. This was the highest figure since statistics began being collected in 2000 and represented a 14% increase compared with 2024. Citizens of Syria, Turkey and Russia most frequently obtained German passports.
