The Minsk City Court is set to begin hearing, under special proceedings, the criminal case against musician Siarhei Mikhalok.
Special proceedings against the artist were officially launched by the Investigative Committee in May this year. However, as early as January 2025, photographs of Siarhei Mikhalok appeared on police wanted posters.
The musician will be tried in absentia on charges of inciting hatred (Article 130, Part 1 of the Criminal Code) and insulting Aliaksandr Lukashenka (Article 368, Part 1 of the Criminal Code).
Siarhei Mikhalok is the founder and frontman of the bands Lyapis Trubetskoy, Brutto and Drezden. In 2020, he announced that none of his projects would perform in Belarus until the Lukashenka regime is replaced.
