Plans to extend the third metro line to Zialyony Luh remain in place. However, construction of the new stations has been postponed. The priority for now will be construction of the fourth metro line. Hieorhij Pratasau, first deputy director and chief engineer of the Minskmetroproekt institute, said this on CTV.
“We still expect to extend the third line all the way to Zialyony Luh. The project exists; the city has simply decided that the first section of the fourth line is currently the most in demand. We are not abandoning this project. The head of state tasked us with ensuring transport accessibility for satellite towns and integrating this into the metro network. The Lahoyskaya station could serve as such a transport interchange hub, which could help connect Lohoisk”, he said.
Construction of the fourth line will begin from Bangalore Square station and head west.
“I always thought we would start building the first section from Bangalore Square station toward the city center, in the direction of Academy of Sciences station. We had been preparing for this. But now we have realized that the opposite direction will be more in demand. We are currently designing the first section of the fourth line toward Kharkauskaya Street”, he said.
