Migrants Attempted To Use Camouflage While Crossing Lithuanian Border

Lithuania’s State Border Guard Service reported that on Wednesday it prevented 29 migrants from illegally crossing the border from Belarus — the highest daily figure this year.

One group attempted to cross in the Čepkeliai Nature Reserve, where a gap in the border fence exists in a marshy area. The migrants tried to use camouflage.

According to Lithuanian border guards, the migrants covered themselves with sleeping bags stretched over hazel branches. They likely hoped the color would help them avoid detection by surveillance cameras, which are effectively the only barrier in that area. However, the plan failed — the migrants were spotted. A patrol, along with canine units, was dispatched, and the group was detained.

Members of the group identified themselves as citizens of Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan, but only four had documents. The entire group was expelled from Lithuania after being provided with humanitarian packages containing food and basic necessities.
