MAZ Produces Special Vans for the Interior Ministry

Representatives of the Belarusian Interior Ministry have inspected new models of MAZ special-purpose vehicles, the automaker’s press service reported.

“The vehicles were manufactured within the import-substitution programme in cooperation with the holding’s subsidiary ‘BELAVTOMAZ’, the MAZ-Kupava Trailer and Body Plant,” the statement said.

Judging by the photos, MAZ presented law-enforcement officers with its own version of the infamous vans widely used for detentions during the violent suppression of peaceful protests in recent years. Tens of thousands of Belarusians were subjected to beatings and torture in such vehicles.

“The ministry’s leadership highly appreciated the technical level of the developed vehicles, noting their compliance with the requirements and technical specifications of the Interior Ministry,” the MAZ press service concluded.

The announcement was posted on the holding’s official Telegram channel but was later removed for unknown reasons.
