Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko announced that May 15 has been declared a day of mourning in memory of the victims of the large-scale attack on the Ukrainian capital.
On that day, flags will be lowered on all municipal buildings in the city. It is also recommended that state flags on public and private buildings be flown at half-mast. All entertainment events in the city are prohibited.
Rescue workers continue clearing rubble at the damaged residential building in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district. At present, the deaths of seven people have been confirmed, including a child born in 2013. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
“Search and rescue operations are currently continuing in Kyiv at the site of the collapse of the entrance section of a residential building, which was practically destroyed from the first to the ninth floor as a result of this Russian attack. The fate of nearly 20 people who may have been inside the building remains unknown. At this moment, seven deaths and 39 injuries have been confirmed in Kyiv alone. All necessary forces of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the National Police, municipal and medical services have been deployed,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported.
According to him, during the massive attacks on May 13 and 14, Russian forces used 1,567 drones and 56 missiles of various types. Ukraine’s interception rate was 94% for drones and 73% for missiles.
“The key challenge is ballistic missiles and the protection of thousands of rear infrastructure facilities and our cities,” he stated.
It should be recalled that overnight Russia launched more than 700 weapons against Ukraine, including drones and missiles. The main strike targeted Kyiv and the surrounding region.
