Man Arrested for Attacking Herasimenia in Warsaw

The Warsaw Ochota District Prosecutor’s Office has announced the arrest of the man who attacked Belarusian athlete Aliaksandra Herasimenia. The incident became public earlier this week.

According to prosecutors, the detained suspect, Marcin N., is accused not only of attacking the Belarusian athlete. In a separate incident, he allegedly kicked another victim in the right shin and punched him in the face, causing injuries.

“Marcin N., questioned as a suspect, admitted to the offences attributed to him and stated in his testimony that the victims were his friends, to whom he had lent money, and that they now pretend not to know him,” the prosecutor’s office said.

The court ordered the man to be held in pre-trial detention for three months. Prosecutors added that they are currently considering whether the suspect should undergo a forensic psychiatric examination.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the evidence gathered so far indicates that the attack on the Belarusian Olympic silver medallist was not motivated by her nationality. Investigators are also seeking to establish whether there were any additional victims of the suspect’s actions.
