Lukashenko Fears U.S. Stance Toward Russia Is a “Staged Performance”

Alexander Lukashenko suggested that the United States may not be sincere in its position toward Russia, claiming that Washington is staging a “performance” and will eventually return to its previous policies regarding the Russia–Ukraine conflict.

“Those who study history understand even better that sooner or later they will return to the same policy they have always pursued. I very much fear that the American position on Russia over the Ukrainian conflict is also a staged performance. The latest information increasingly points to that. I would not want that to be the case. I would prefer that we end this war as it should be ended — there should be no games here, because, as Trump himself says, many people are dying.

But these are just words. We all understand that such sanctions could tomorrow be directed at other countries. If India refuses to comply and continues to buy oil where it chooses, sanctions could be imposed against it. One and a half billion people. Everyone understands that tomorrow even military pressure could be applied — look at Venezuela, for example. Everyone realizes this is where things may lead. So let’s unite and create an alternative,” he said.

According to Lukashenko, this alternative should begin with a new financial settlement system — but it could also include demonstrating collective capabilities.

“Starting with payment systems and ending with a certain demonstration of our capabilities. And we have them — we do. But we are not using them. We keep waiting for them to deal with us one by one. So, while pointing at the West, we must draw the right conclusions — that we ourselves are not always effective in this regard and are not doing what must be done today. And if we don’t do it today, tomorrow may be too late. Possibly too late,” he said.

Earlier, Lukashenko had described attempts to seize frozen Russian assets as theft and banditry.

During his speech, he also questioned the peacemaking achievements of Donald Trump.
