Lukashenka Replaces Markau With Zhuk

Alyaksandr Lukashenka replaced the information minister on Wednesday. According to Lukashenka’s press service, Dzmitry Zhuk was appointed as the new minister. He previously headed the publishing house Belarus Today.

Before him, the information minister since June 2024 had been former ONT head Marat Markau.

It should be noted that Markau will not remain without a job. He was appointed culture minister instead of actor Ruslan Charnetski, who had headed the Culture Ministry since December 2024. Lukashenka had previously criticized Charnetski several times.

Addressing Zhuk, Alyaksandr Lukashenka said that he was already a ready-made minister.

“Dzmitry Alyaksandravich, what advice can I give you? You are already a fully prepared person, ideologically грамотный, understanding what needs to be done. Therefore, I absolutely do not mind that you try yourself in this position. Although I view with great regret when a practitioner of your kind moves into management work. Because, well, I think the person will disappear”, he said.

“I’m not going to another planet”, Zhuk responded.

Lukashenka replied that he was confident the appointee would not disappear in the new post.
