Lukashenka Congratulates Myanmar Junta Leader On Election As President

Alyaksandr Lukashenka congratulated Min Aung Hlaing on his election as president of Myanmar.

Today, the junta leader who seized power in a 2021 coup was elected president by a parliament dominated by the Union Solidarity and Development Party and military appointees.

“I am convinced that your rich experience as a statesman, as well as your professional and personal qualities, will allow you to successfully lead Myanmar and ensure the country’s stability and socio-economic development,” the congratulatory message said.

Lukashenka also noted the active momentum in Belarus-Myanmar relations seen throughout 2025. Last year, he and Min Aung Hlaing exchanged visits. The message also confirmed Belarus’s intention to implement the agreements reached in order to further strengthen ties with Myanmar and expressed hope for new meetings.
