Aliaksandr Lukashenka has signed a decree approving, as a basis for negotiations, a draft agreement on trade and economic cooperation with Uruguay.

The agreement is aimed at creating a framework for deepening economic ties between the two countries. The document sets out key objectives, including promoting cooperation between businesses of the two sides, exchanging information on trade opportunities and applicable legislation, and expanding and diversifying trade flows, Lukashenka’s press service reports.

The agreement provides for the establishment of an intergovernmental Belarusian-Uruguayan joint commission on trade and economic cooperation, and sets out its main functions and the procedure for holding meetings.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus has been authorized to conduct negotiations on the draft agreement and sign it.
