Aliaksandr Lukashenka accused law enforcement officers of protecting those stealing fuel during today’s nationwide meeting on the harvesting campaign.
“The harvest has only just begun, and the Interior Ministry has already uncovered 46 crimes. The main offences involve the theft of components and spare parts, as well as bribery. Fuel and lubricants theft ranks first,” he said, according to his press service.
According to Lukashenka, monitoring shows that local authorities are taking only a formal approach to preventing theft.
“I have the results of a recent monitoring exercise on my desk, which showed that local authorities are approaching the eradication of theft carelessly and purely as a formality. As a result, dishonest workers steal fuel and are completely confident they will go unpunished.
What is especially outrageous is that some law enforcement officers, instead of fighting these thieves, are taking a share and providing them with protection, just like in the wild 1990s. Gentlemen, you understand that we will not allow a return to the 1990s, even in this seemingly minor issue,” he said.
