Large Shipment Of Hashish Seized In Belarus

Belarusian customs officers discovered 317 kilograms of hashish that were being transported from Poland to Russia through Belarus.

The hashish was hidden in compartments within legally transported goods that arrived from Poland in a truck operated by a Polish carrier. The vehicle was driven by a Belarusian citizen, the State Customs Committee reported.

It was established that the drugs were intended to be delivered further to the territory of Russia.

As a result of cooperation with the Federal Customs Service of Russia, the recipient of the drugs was detained on Russian territory — a 58-year-old citizen of Estonia. He had previously been convicted in Russia of serious crimes.

In Belarus, the Operational Customs has opened a criminal case under the article on illegal movement of narcotic substances across the border (Part 2 of Article 328-1 of the Criminal Code, involving a group of persons). In Russia, the North-Western Operational Customs has opened a case under Part 4 of Article 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The suspects face up to 20 years of imprisonment.
