At the Fifth Ostrogski Forum in Kyiv, representatives of Belarusian democratic forces are discussing with Ukrainian authorities the problems facing Belarusians in Ukraine, including legalization issues. This was reported by Franak Viačorka, chief adviser to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.

“Of course, a lot comes down to legalization issues. Because Belarusians who live here cannot obtain documents, their passports expire, and there is no system or mechanism for resolving all these problems. But today we held talks with representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, and we hope that as early as next week we will be able to find some kind of roadmap, some next steps,” he said.

According to him, meetings with a representative of the Office of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy included discussions on creating a working group on the problems facing Belarusians in Ukraine. With members of the Verkhovna Rada, they discussed draft laws that should help unblock Belarusians’ bank accounts and simplify legalization procedures.

“The forum will continue tomorrow as well. Belarusian veterans, Belarusian volunteers and Belarusian cultural figures are also taking part. I think all these aspects of our relations need to be discussed here. Because a year ago, many things were indeed impossible. Now that these contacts with Ukraine have emerged, many things can — we hope, we hope — be resolved,” the adviser said.
