Khrenin Reports To Lukashenka On Oreshnik Being Placed On Combat Duty And Launches Of Modernised Polonez

Alyaksandr Lukashenka heard a report from Defence Minister Viktar Khrenin. It focused on the state of affairs in the Armed Forces, the Oreshnik system and the upgraded Polonez.

According to Lukashenka’s press service, one of the topics of the report concerned “the deployment of the Oreshnik missile system in Belarus and its placement on combat duty”. Military and military-technical cooperation with Russia was also discussed.

“I delivered a detailed report to the head of state on the state of affairs in the Armed Forces. The head of state keeps his finger on the pulse of this issue at all times. One of the matters reported to the head of state was how the deployment of the Oreshnik missile system proceeded and how its placement on combat duty is progressing,” Khrenin said.

In addition, Lukashenka was briefed on the recent launches of the modernised domestically produced Polonez-M multiple-launch rocket system, which has increased range and improved accuracy. It was noted that the relevant issues were discussed in practical terms and that the necessary tasks were set.

“It was reported that our missile troops began the new training year with launches of the modernised Polonez-M system, which is distinguished by increased range and accuracy,” Khrenin said.

According to him, he informed Lukashenka about how the launches went. The unit successfully returned home yesterday and arrived at its permanent deployment base. Khrenin added that Lukashenka was interested in the prospects for further modernisation of the system, joint development with the Russian Federation of longer-range missiles, and the future of Polonez-M.

“It was reported in detail that we are interested in this, that we need this type of weaponry. And together with our State Authority for Military Industry we will continue work on the development and modernisation of this system,” Khrenin said.

Khrenin also spoke about plans to supply modernised Buk surface-to-air missile systems to the Belarusian Armed Forces. The discussion focused on delivery timelines and quantitative parameters.

Finally, Lukashenka and the defence minister reviewed proposals on personnel appointments in the Armed Forces.
