Karanik Receives New Deputies

The Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Uladzimir Karanik, has received two new deputies. The corresponding appointments were made today by Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

The director of the Physical-Technical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Vitaly Zaleski, has become Karanik’s First Deputy.

Academician-Secretary of the Department of Chemistry and Earth Sciences Aliaksei Trukhanau has been appointed Deputy Chairman of the Presidium.

Appointing the officials, Lukashenka noted that Belarusian science is not in decline, but its output is insufficient.

“I will not speak about science; much has already been said. There is no development without science. As for our science, I would not say that we are decaying from a scientific point of view. But what science gives us, especially in applied fields, is extremely insufficient. You know this very well. That we need to shake up the Academy of Sciences is a fact. I have also spoken about this. That is why a relatively young and energetic person who understands what is required of him was sent there.

But one man alone is not a warrior. He was tasked with finding people like you — young but experienced, on whom he can rely. Together and forward!” he said.

Lukashenka also updated the composition of the State Secretariat of the Security Council earlier in the day.
