Kalinoŭski Regiment Members Convicted in Absentia Added to Terrorist List

The State Security Committee (KGB) has updated its list of persons involved in “terrorist activities.”

The list now includes 11 individuals, among them six former fighters of the Kalinoŭski Regiment, including former deputy commander of the regiment and now a representative of the United Transitional Cabinet for defence and national security Vadzim Kabanchuk, former regiment commanders Pavel Shurmei and Dzianis Prokharau, fighter Aliaksei Kavalchuk and instructor Aliaksei Nazarau.

In early March, they were sentenced in absentia to prison terms ranging from 12 to 25 years, along with substantial fines. Recently, the Interior Ministry added them to its “extremist list.”

Also included in the KGB list are Alena Malinouskaya, Dzmitry Drobys, Viachaslau Vanslavovich, Syarhei Palkhouski, and Sviatlana Anheleyka.

The list now includes 1,436 individuals, of whom 688 are Belarusian citizens.

It should be recalled that extremism charges in Belarus are used to target opponents of the authorities and dissent in general.
