Iran Offers Belarus Access to Its Southern Ports for Trade With Asia and Africa

Iran has proposed that Belarus use its southern ports to expand trade with India, African countries, and Southeast Asia. The offer was made by Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade Mohammad Atabak during the 18th meeting of the Belarus–Iran Joint Intergovernmental Commission, reports the *Tehran Times*.

The session focused on cooperation in economic, commercial, scientific, cultural and investment fields. Atabak stressed the need to resolve banking issues and transit problems for drivers in order to ensure predictable and efficient trade.

Head of the Belarusian delegation, Industry Minister Andrei Kuzniatsou, said Belarus is ready to deepen cooperation with Iran in economic and industrial technologies, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, machinery, household appliances, food and agricultural products.

Kuznetsau named transport, transit corridors, scientific education and cultural tourism as priorities for cooperation in the near future.

According to IRNA, Belarus’s Ministry of Industry and Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture also reached agreements on joint production of agricultural machinery and potash fertilizers.

The parties agreed that Iran will supply food products to Belarus and import agricultural raw materials from Belarus. Tehran expressed readiness to ensure transit of Belarusian agricultural goods to third countries.

Belarusian potash will also be supplied to Iran, where part of the product will undergo further processing.
