The Investigative Committee has completed its investigation into the death of a construction worker at a building site in Minsk. The incident occurred in the spring of last year.
According to investigators, during the reconstruction of one of the buildings in Minsk a mast lifting platform fell from a height of more than 10 meters. Two people were on it at the time. A 45-year-old worker was pressed against a tree by the structure. Medics provided assistance, but the man later died in hospital. The second worker, a 51-year-old builder, sustained less serious injuries.
Charges have been brought against an official responsible for compliance with occupational safety and labor protection regulations.
“The man allowed individuals who had not undergone the required occupational safety training to work at the construction and installation site and also failed to ensure the use of safety harnesses.
During the investigation, numerous expert examinations were carried out, the company’s documentation was inspected and added to the case file, and witnesses as well as the accused were questioned. The accused did not admit guilt. Based on the analysis of the collected evidence, investigators reconstructed the sequence of events preceding the tragedy. It was established that the deceased had no experience in installing such platforms and was doing it for the first time on the day of the incident,” the Investigative Committee said.
The accused has been charged under Part 2 of Article 303 of the Criminal Code (“Violation of safety rules during construction work and the operation of machinery and equipment resulting in less serious bodily injury and death through negligence”) and Part 2 of Article 306 (“Violation of occupational safety regulations by an official responsible for their observance resulting in less serious bodily injury and death through negligence”).
