Investigative Committee Classifies Reports of Former Homiel City Executive Committee Head’s Detention as Defamation

The Investigative Committee has announced the opening of a criminal case over publications by online media outlets reporting the alleged detention of former Homiel City Executive Committee Chairman Uladzimir Pryvalau.

“The information in question does not correspond to reality. No criminal case has been opened against Uladzimir Pryvalau, and no criminal prosecution has been conducted against him,” the Investigative Committee said.

The Homiel City Department of the committee has opened a criminal case under the article covering defamation (Article 188 of the Criminal Code).

“Investigative actions are currently being carried out to identify individuals involved in creating the fake report and publicly disseminating false and defamatory information,” the Investigative Committee added.
