An information centre for Belarusians, established under an agreement between Lithuania and the Council of Europe, will open in Vilnius. It will operate for five years at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library, Delfi reports, citing BNS.
The proposal by Lithuania’s Ministry of Culture has been approved by the government. A 24-square-metre space has been allocated for the centre and is currently being adapted in line with the Council of Europe’s requirements at its expense. The library’s director, Aušra Žilinskienė, said that an agreement with the Council of Europe could be signed within the next two weeks.
“Once the decision is made, other issues can be addressed, such as payment of utilities and others. This will not take much time”, she said.
At the centre, Belarusians will be able to obtain information about the activities and values of the Council of Europe, as well as assistance available to Belarusians in Lithuania. The Council of Europe will finance the centre’s operations and staff.
