An in-absentia trial in the case of five fighters of the Kalinouski Regiment will begin in the Minsk City Court on 28 January, the Viasna Human Rights Centre reported.
In October, the Investigative Committee initiated special proceedings against Alyaksei Kavalchuk, Alyaksei Nazarau, Dzianis Procharau, Pavel Shurmey, as well as the regiment’s defence representative Vadzim Kabanchuk.
They are accused under articles relating to the creation of a criminal organization, an act of terrorism, aiding terrorist activities, creating and leading a terrorist organization, participating in a terrorist organization, intentionally disabling transport infrastructure, treason, calls for actions harmful to national security, creating an extremist formation, participating in an armed formation on the territory of a foreign state, and aiding extremist activity.
