Imprisoned journalist Kiryl Pazniak has been transferred from the intensive care unit of Minsk’s emergency hospital to the medical unit of Pretrial Detention Centre No. 1, where he continues treatment for a lung condition. This was reported by Radio Svaboda, citing a source familiar with the situation.
According to the source, in a letter received several days ago, Pozniak said that before the court hearing he had been in very poor condition, unable to breathe and had been placed in intensive care. His condition has since improved, but treatment is continuing.
It should be recalled that it became known last week that imprisoned journalist Kiryl Pazniak fell ill on the way to court. He was hospitalised. Eight months ago, Pazniak suffered from pneumonia and COVID-19. According to the journalist’s former wife, he had recently lost consciousness several times. His lungs may be in poor condition.
On May 26, Reporters Without Borders called on the Belarusian authorities to ensure the journalist receives proper medical care.
Kiryl and his daughter Yanina Pazniak were detained in September 2025. They are charged under articles related to the “creation of an extremist formation” and “discrediting Belarus”. The journalist’s YouTube channel Platform 375 was designated an “extremist formation”.
The trial scheduled for May 14 was postponed without a new date being announced.
